What is it about Hunger Games that makes it such a special book? What's the magic behind it?

Would love to hear your take. Out of thousands of fiction books, why is Hunger Games so unique. What is is specifically that people love about the book. Look beneath the surface.

For me, the books felt real. The characters were ones that one could identify with an the plot was so enchanting. It pulls you straight in even if you're not one for reading war-time books.

It's special because it incorporates a lot of our history, mythical and real, and along with that, Suzanne Collins has an underlying tone of the problems that exist in our current day society as well, where politics is concerned.

She brings all these elements together and has a message under what her characters do. The books make you question your reality and what can be done to change it.

Recently, The Hunger Games comes to mind more often because of the conflicts going on right now in the world. What with the protests and all? I think we're heading for a rebellion of our own.

Once you've conceived a character as good as Katniss, you'd have to be really unlucky to mess the book up from that point. She's got everything - reader identification (who hasn't done it tough at some point, or felt oppressed), she can be as badass as hell, yet also so vulnerable you want to protect her, and most girls who read about her want to be her - and all the guys want to meet her! Me, I'd follow our mockingjay to the ends of the earth...

Oh, and she's got a sense of humor too!
