The Quarter Quell

I was kinda mad and with mixed emotions when Peeta and Katniss returned to the Hunger Games.
What did you guys think?

I was totally furious.

I felt like slapping President Snow across the face.

I thought it was expected and sort of meant to happen, though, I didn't want to think Peeta thought that he could actually protect Katniss. Just sayin', he is slightly incapable of protecting her. That was one confusing sentence.

i totally agree with you. with that mechanical, Capital leg he really thinks he's gonna protect her????? he already did his job in the 74th game keeping the Careers away. as much as i don't wanna say this: it is Katniss's turn to step up.

Peeta only goes to protect her and nothing else.
But it did build up Katniss's feeling towards him.
Hmm.

My friend's and I have been trying to decide whether or not we think President Snow rigged the quell. Sure, he hates Katniss and wants her dead. But he doesn't seem like a stupid man, and to put the symbol of the rebellion back in the games for all of Panem to watch--reiterating her courage and determination. It seems like such a foolish move on his part. What could incite the rebels more?

I almost thought the game-maker had rigged it so that the victors would have to play again, but that line he gives Catniss at the end of Catching FIre dispells that theory.

Could it really be that no one rigged the hat and it was just something in the original design? Even that seems unlikely.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your theories

I think President Snow obviously wanted Katniss dead or else he wouldn't have done the Quarter Quell.

Well, when I read that sentence- "I'm going back into the arena", I started jumping and screaming because I was so excited.
But... I think something else could have happened. I don't know what, maybe President Snow could do something evil and sadistic.
And I don't think it's the issue of whether Peeta can protect her- it's just the fact that he wants to, and he's going to try. Even if he can't protect her, you have to remember, that he msut know he can't protect her from everything, as hard as he may try.
And yeah, President Snow wants her dead at once. Who could blame him? I mean, what would you do if one girl decided to make you look stupid in front of your country? I would be M-A-D. I think he rigged it as well. It gives the whole second book a twist

It adds a lot of suspense.
And welearn more that Katniss does indeed care about Peeta.
But still loves Gale too much to let go.

Yeah shes known Gale much longer than Peeta its kinda like she's living for the moment with Peeta but is like staying with Gale no matter what. That also is a very interesting idea that President Snow could have rigged the quell i never thought of that til you said that (good idea! ) now that has me wondering.....

yeah... Katniss's idea that he "drinks blood and can almost smell it" sends shivers down my spine because its so gross and plus with his description i can see him doing that

I hate President Snow.

He freaks me out. Reminds me of a snake for some reason... ??

Especially the "Oh, and I know about the kiss." line... freaky.

How in the world could he smell like blood? Roses, sure, but blood... sends shivers.

It's just a way to build up his character.

I love it how Gale is described as smelling like apple, smoke and wood

to bad they cant turn that into a cologne for guys to make them attract us just kidding but yeah it sounds good for a guy who is used to the outdoors and hunts but him in the mine i just cant picture him as that. i thought it was sweet when h his mom says,

"- - but i think he saves all his Sunday's for you though"

yeah i love it how Hazelle knows what Katniss is thinking


all i just want to know is how Peeta found Katniss back at her old house in the Seam

when they announce the Quarter Quell Katniss flips out and and runs to go to the woods but remembers the fence and runs to the old house and then Peeta finds her there
