This one is somewhat different, but it's well-written and beautiful.

Actually I did see an alternate Hunger Game Trilogy around last Christmas but I wouldn't call it "fan" I've got a friend of a friend who has a son in college who's in a creative writing group there, they like to "re-write" novels etc. that they think can do a better job on, they've gone after those Twilight novels with a vengence but the one I got to read was a rework of The Hunger Games Trilogy. I read the series last summer then around Christmas got an opportunity to read this re-work. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to get banned or upset people but I'll give you some of the high points. First, they felt that Collin's wasn't emphasizing the capital and Panam for what it really was, a souless degenerate state. When Katniss and Peeta rode the train to the capital the food wasn't as fancy and there was a more somber tone. When the kids were being "prepared" for the parade Katniss noticed a woman watching her as the prep team was working on her, Cinna later explained to her that this woman was a wealthy patron who was interested in "buying" her if she happened to win, indeed all the kids had "buyers" watching them. As far as the kids went there was a general air of terror and fear, several of the younger kids cried all the time and were eventually sedated. The parade and the interviews went pretty much as Collin's wrote them The arena was much smaller there were no little silver parachutes dropping out of the sky no all-seeing cameras and the kids had to fight in just a skimpy loincloth colorcoded to ther district. There were also no "mutts" Glimmer is killed by sombody with a knife Instead of those wolfmutt things at the end there were only packs of starving dogs. After the games Katniss happens to notice a wagon piled with all the dead tributes, naked and stacked like logs, (they really went into a graphic decription of this) which affects affects her almost as much as what happens to her sister. At this point her true hatred of Snow and the capital really begins. I'll stop at this point as the groups re-write of the other two books really gets super depressing and dark. if anybody wants me to continue let me know.
